Visual designs for custom college applications that encourage students to apply directly to a school to access additional benefits not available on third-party application vendor platforms.

Working with the Product team, Engineers, and Account managers, I designed the UI for custom college applications starting with authentication to the final step of submitting an application for admission. The product applications aligned with the school’s visual branding to create a seamless and recognizable experience for students already familiar with the school. I defined interactive states for UI elements in prototyping software for handoff to the Developer and designed page templates showing typographic hierarchy; section stacking; vertical spacing; internal page navigation; and responsive layouts. I ensured text and UI components met accessibility requirements for color contrast in accordance with WCAG guidelines.

Creighton University Bluejay Premier Application

Challenge

Develop an application that offers a frictionless and brand-aligned experience for students applying for admission to the partner school resulting in higher overall applicants particularly from students desiring early acceptance.

Process

Working with a larger team of content and product managers, developers and engineers, I was responsible for ensuring the partner school’s visual brand identity was woven throughout the product app. I designed the UI to mirror the interactions found on the Partner’s website applying brand-aligned patterns to a variety of user inputs. Clear navigation, well-defined typographic styles, and consistent visual spacing supported the user completing the task efficiently with little friction whether on their phone or laptop.

Outcome

The custom application saw high submission rates capturing students who preferred the experience of the custom app over generic, third-party apps. Analytics software revealed an intuitive user experience throughout the app and provided the team with data to recommend the Partner consider changing the essay from required to optional to increase overall submission rates.
